Grant Hatlen Journey

Grant Hatlen was born to a family of medical professionals on August 27, 1975 in San Diego, California. As a young boy, Grant enjoyed the works of Mark Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Tom Sawyer and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. He considered Mark Twain as his inspiration to become a writer. He obtained his Creative Writing degree from the University of California in Irvine where he majored in Creative Nonfiction. He wrote mainly anything about everything, from a quick walk to the park to a very late night dinner at a fancy restaurant. He later developed fascination with the biographical accounts of great American historical figures such as Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr.

Grant Hatlen worked as a teacher of Language and Literature at the Mira Mesa High School, which he considered a humanitarian vocation. He specialized in grammar and English Literature. As a high school teacher, he moderated the school yearbook and the debate team. He also conducted writing workshops in poetry, fiction and nonfiction to aspiring student writers in the community.

Grant Hatlen also contributed several opinion and human interest articles in the local newspaper. He also does freelance advertisement writing for small businesses, even help compose radio jingles of local radio stations.

In 2006, he travelled to South Korea and helped establish an English language learning institute in the quaint and picturesque city of Busan. Grant Hatlen fell in love Korea's landscape and people, which is fairly different from the California climate and ambiance of his youth. During his spare time, he studied Korean cuisine and now has perfected Korean key dishes of Bulgogi and Donkatsu. He also started learning the Korean language and has attempted to translate several American and English poems to Korean. Grant is now currently writing a memoir of his stay in the South Korean country.
